Fares & passes

Takstar · Fares & passes

One ticket carries you across metro, tram and ferry. You pay for the number of fare zones your journey touches — nothing more. Work out any fare below and issue yourself a ticket, or buy a pass if you travel often.

Work out your fare

The price is computed from the same tariff printed below — the fare for your journey is decided by how many zones it crosses. Children under 6 travel free and need no ticket.

Children under 6 travel free. A single ticket is valid for 90 minutes with free transfers between lines. Reduced fare is half the adult fare.

Who pays what

  • Adults (18–66) pay the full fare.
  • Reduced — ages 6–17, students, and seniors 67+ — pay half. Carry proof.
  • Children under 6 travel free, up to three per paying adult.
  • Registered disabled travellers and one companion travel at the reduced fare; guide and assistance dogs travel free.

Prices are in Kelmark (mk), the currency of Kelmar.

How zones work

Vaross is priced in three concentric zones. Count the zones your journey touches — start, end, and anything in between — and that is your fare band. A ride wholly inside the city is a one-zone fare; hopping from the centre to the outer isles is three.

Zone A

City

Sone A

The city core on Storøy — the central metro and tram stations, the harbour and the citadel gate.

Zone B

Inner Isles

Sone B

The inner isles and city edges: Nordøy, West Gate, the eastern shore and the lighthouse quarter.

Zone C

Outer Isles

Sone C

The outer isles reached by ferry — Salt Isle, Lighthouse Isle and Wind Shore.

Buying and validating

Where to buy

  • Ferdverk app — buy singles and passes, and show a live ticket. Free on both app stores.
  • Kelkort smartcard — tap on and off at every gate and ferry ramp; the system always charges the cheapest fare for your journey.
  • Station machines — at every metro station and the Harbour Square ferry hall. Cash and card.
  • Onboard trams — contactless card at the door reader. No cash on trams.

Validating & transfers

  • Tap or validate before you board. A single is valid for 90 minutes.
  • Transfer freely between lines within that time — one continuous journey, one fare.
  • Return trips need a new ticket; a single is one-way.
