Our History / Ar n-Eachdraidh

The Caldera Transit Authority (CTA) was established in 1928 to unite the disparate ferry and tram operators of the Caldera archipelago into a single, cohesive public service. Built upon the remnants of a collapsed ancient volcano, our city presents unique geographical challenges.

From the deep waters of the crater bay to the steep inclines of Observatory Peak, our network is an engineering marvel designed to connect every community. The opening of the Cross-Crater Ferry in 1932, and the subsequent blasting of the Blue Line tunnels in 1965, cemented our commitment to accessible, rapid transit.

Accessibility / Cothromachd

We believe transit is for everyone. Caldera Transit Authority is committed to a barrier-free network:

  • Step-Free Access: All Metro and Tram stations feature level boarding and elevators to street level.
  • Ferry Ramps: The F1 Ferry utilizes automated tidal ramps to ensure smooth boarding regardless of sea level.
  • Audio/Visual: All vehicles feature high-contrast displays and bilingual (English/Caldic) audio announcements.

Our Fleet / Ar Cabhlach

Our modern fleet consists of 45 Metro trains, 20 low-floor Trams, 5 hybrid-electric ferries, and the iconic twin funicular cars. We are continuously upgrading our vehicles to reduce emissions and improve passenger comfort.
