About the Authority
Porto Azur Transit Authority (Autorité de Transito de Porto Azur), known by its initials ATPA, has been keeping Porto Azur moving since 14 March 1954.
We operate five transit lines across metro, tram, ferry, funicular, and bus services on the Mediterranean island of Isola d'Azur, serving a population of approximately 180,000 residents across all three fare zones.
History
Founded on 14 March 1954, ATPA began as a single bus route connecting the old port to the city centre. The original fleet consisted of twelve diesel buses operating on what is now the Circuito Urbano route.
The Funicular de Monte opened in 1961, providing a vital link between the lower city and the historic Castelo district. The Linea Azur metro — the island's first and only heavy rail line — began service in 1978, dramatically reducing cross-city travel times. The Linea Verda tram followed in 1992 as part of a city-wide effort to promote sustainable transport.
The Linea de Golfo ferry was inaugurated in 2001, finally providing a direct passenger link between Porto Vecchio, Isola del Faro, and the developing Marina Nuova district. Today, ATPA carries over 12 million passengers annually.
