OUR HOME. OUR RESPONSIBILITY.
Life moves better
when we move together.
We’re Orava Transit. Island owned. People powered.
Connecting our communities since 1968.

AN ISLAND, OPEN TO POSSIBILITY
Small enough to know.
Big enough to wander.
Orava lies in the Stillwater Sea, a crescent of volcanic hills wrapped around a sheltered eastern harbor. Two smaller islands, Reed and South, sit beyond the quay. Salt-soft winters, dry summers and a dependable afternoon sea breeze shape our days.
Once a chain of boatbuilding villages, the city grew around the harbor’s tide mills. When the old freight railway carried its first public passengers in 1968, the Orava Island Transit Authority was born. The promise was simple: the water and the hills should bring us together, not keep us apart.
Today, our five lines connect 13 stations across three islands. The metro runs beneath the main island’s ridges, trams follow its western and eastern waterfronts, and the ferry keeps island life connected.

OUR LANGUAGE, YOUR WAYFINDING
Two names.
One destination.
Oravi is the language of our islands. Short, open sounds once helped boat crews call across the water. “Vela” means harbor, “sula” means south, and “li” means line. The city’s name means “a home around water.”
You’ll see Oravi first and English second on every line, station sign and timetable: Vela / Harbor Exchange, for example. Both names always refer to the same place. Listen for both names in onboard announcements.
We speak as neighbors: clearly, calmly and without jargon. If something changes, we tell you what it means for your journey and what to do next.
A PLACE FOR EVERYONE
Your journey should feel possible.
Step-free from start to finish
All metro stations have lifts. Tram platforms provide level boarding, and every ferry has an adjustable ramp. Each vehicle has two wheelchair spaces. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters up to 70 cm wide and 120 cm long are welcome; ramp capacity is 300 kg including the passenger.
Help, without the hassle
No booking is required. Use a station help point or speak to the driver or ferry crew. For a supported journey, call +887 20 40 100 at least one day ahead. A registered companion and assistance animals travel free.
Information in more ways
Vehicles have audible and visual stop announcements in Oravi and English. Platforms have tactile edges and high-contrast signs. Our website supports keyboard navigation, reduced motion and printable travel information.
If a lift is unavailable, use the help point before entering the platform. We arrange an accessible shuttle to the next step-free connection at no extra cost.
Accountable to the island.
We’re a public authority, governed by a seven-member island council board, including two passenger representatives. Fares support daily operations; the island mobility levy funds new infrastructure. Board meetings take place on the first Thursday of each month at our headquarters and are open to everyone.
