We operate the integrated public transport network across the Meridian Archipelago — seven inhabited islands connected by tunnel, bridge, and sea. Our mandate is simple: reliable, accessible, affordable travel for residents and visitors alike, in harmony with the archipelago's fragile maritime environment.

History

In 1923, the first electric tram ran from Old Harbor to Market Square, carrying fish-market workers and schoolchildren. The ferry fleet was municipalized in 1931. The Blue and Red metro lines opened in 1972 and 1986 respectively, tunneling beneath the central strait. The Green tram was modernized in 2001 with low-floor vehicles. Today, our fleet includes 42 metro trains, 28 trams, and 6 ferries.

Accessibility

All metro stations have elevators and tactile guidance paths. Trams are 100% low-floor. Ferries carry wheelchair ramps and designated seating. Audio announcements are made in Värösk and English on all lines. Service animals travel free. Sustainability

All metro and tram power comes from the archipelago's offshore wind farm (Merituuli). Ferry engines were converted to hybrid-electric in 2023, reducing harbor emissions by 40%. We are committed to net-zero operations by 2035.

Governance

MSL is a public-benefit corporation owned by the Meridian Archipelago Regional Council. The board of directors includes elected representatives, labor unions, and environmental advisors. Annual reports are published in March.
