An island that learned to move as one
Velmara is a city of 482,000 people on three islands in the Serevan Sea, forty kilometres off the Ternovan mainland. We are the authority that carries them — by metro, tram and ferry, every day of the year.

The Isle of Velmára is fourteen kilometres long and nine wide, a crescent of granite hills cupping the great natural harbour of Porth Hen. Two smaller isles complete the city: Ynys Kessrá to the north, home to 6,400 people and the island's fishing fleet, and Ynys Ollavá to the south-east, population 3,100, all orchards and boat-yards.
The climate is mild and maritime: winters of 6–10°C, summers of 18–24°C, and the famous morladen, the sea mist that rolls in before breakfast and burns off by ten. Islanders plan around it the way other cities plan around rush hour — which is why our ferries sail to mist as well as to tide.
Seven fishing hamlets took a joint charter in 1848 and called themselves Velmára. The first electric tram ran in 1909, the harbour ferries were municipalised in 1921, and the metro — the island's proudest hole in the ground — opened in 1978. Through all of it, one habit held: everything is named twice, in Velmari and in English, and the Velmari name comes first on the sign.

Velmara Island Transit · Treveth Velmára was founded on 4 March 1968, merging the Municipal Tramways, the Harbour Ferries and the Metro Board into a single body. Today 1,240 people run five lines and 26 stations, carrying 68 million journeys a year.
How we speak to you: plainly, bilingually, and with the times first. If a ferry is late because of mist on the sound, we say so. If engineering means a bus instead of a tram, we say that too — in both languages, on every platform, before you have to ask.

The Velmari language · Velmárek
Velmárek is the insular language of the Serevan family, spoken daily by some 90,000 islanders. Every station and line on this site carries its Velmari name next to its English one — exactly as on the platform signs. A pocket glossary for travellers:

Short history · Istori Ver
- 1848 — Seven hamlets sign the Charter of Velmára; Porth Hen becomes the city harbour.
- 1903 — Horse trams begin; electrified 1909. The promenade line they built is today's T1.
- 1921 — The city buys the private ferries after the great mist strandings; the Isles service begins.
- 1968 — Velmara Island Transit founded, 4 March, uniting tram, ferry and the coming metro.
- 1978 — M1 Harbour Line opens, Southpoint to Kessa Crossing, on a single November day.
- 1989 — M2 Garden Line opens, Westcliff to East Pier.
- 1997 — T2 Old Town Tram restores rails to Theatre Royal after a 40-year absence.
- 2015 — Both isle pontoons rebuilt; ferries go low-emission hybrid.
- 2026 — This timetable: five lines, 26 stations, one ticket.
Accessibility · Hedhas
- Step-free access at every station except Westcliff (lift under construction, due spring 2027 — staff will help you board at Botanical Gardens).
- All T1 and T2 trams are low-floor; all metro trains have level boarding at the middle doors, marked in amber.
- Ferries carry wheelchairs, mobility scooters and bicycles free. Boarding ramps adjust to the tide; crew assist on request.
- Audio announcements in Velmari and English on every service; tactile platform edging throughout the metro.
