About the ATV

The Autoritat de Transitz Velmaric (Velumara Transit Authority) has served the Velumara archipelago since 1927. We operate five lines across three modes — metro, tram, and ferry — carrying over 14 million passengers each month.

Our History

Velumara's transit story began in the early twentieth century, when the growing archipelago city needed a modern system to connect its scattered neighbourhoods, harbour districts, and outlying islands. What started as a single metro line has grown into a comprehensive network serving 842,000 residents and millions of visitors each year.

1927

Autoritat de Transitz Velmaric founded by the Velumara City Council to unify the city's fragmented omnibus services.

1934

First metro line opened between Mercat Vell and Porto Grande, serving the growing harbour district.

1952

The Linea Azura (M2) extended eastward to Lido Est, connecting the new coastal residential districts.

1968

Tram del Port (T1) inaugurated along the historic harbour quayside, replacing the old circular bus route.

1985

Ferri del Canal (F1) launched, providing the first scheduled public transport to Isla Luna.

1998

Ferri de l'Alba (F2) began service to Isla Vento and Cala Remota, opening the eastern archipelago.

2012

Stazione Centrale rebuilt as a unified interchange hub for M1, M2, and T1.

2024

Contactless payment introduced across all lines. Monthly ridership exceeds 14 million journeys.

Accessibility

The ATV is committed to making public transport accessible to everyone. We continually invest in station upgrades, vehicle modifications, and staff training to ensure all passengers can travel with dignity and independence.

All metro stations on M1 and M2 have step-free access via lifts and ramps, except Collina Alta and Capo Sud.
Tram T1 low-floor vehicles with ramp access at all stops except Molo Pescatori and Faro Antico.
Ferry vessels have wheelchair-accessible decks and audio announcements.
Audio-visual next-stop announcements on all services.
Priority seating on all vehicles.
Guide dogs permitted on all services free of charge.
Staff assistance available at Stazione Centrale, PortaNord, and Porto Grande.

Governance

The ATV operates as an independent public authority under the governance of the Velumara City Council. Our board comprises seven members appointed by the Council, including a chair, two citizen representatives, and two transport engineering specialists. Day-to-day operations are managed by a Director General appointed by the board.

Annual reports, financial statements, and strategic plans are published on our transparency portal. The ATV receives approximately 40% of its operating revenue from fares, with the remainder funded by the City Council and targeted government grants for infrastructure investment.
