How we look after what you leave behind

  1. Tell us as soon as you can. Use the form below, phone the lost property office, or speak to staff on the day — items are still on the train, tram or ferry for a while after you get off.
  2. We log everything. Items handed in are logged the same day with the line, vehicle and time. If we find a match we will contact you within two working days.
  3. Collect in person. The office at Aðalstöð is open Mon–Fri 08:00–18:00 and Sat 09:00–13:00. Bring photo ID and the reference number from your enquiry.
  4. Or we post it to you. Within the island, we can send most items by tracked post for kr 9.50 — payable on collection of the parcel.
  5. After 90 days unclaimed items are donated to island charities, or securely destroyed if they carry personal data. Perishable food and unlabelled medication are disposed of after 24 hours.

We cannot store cash (banked within 24 hours and returned against ID), live animals (taken to the island shelter) or items that are a danger to others.
