About AITA

Built for an island city.

Auralei Island Transit Authority was founded on 18 May 1974 after three private pier companies, the hill tram trust, and the civic metro works were brought under one public timetable.

Auralei

Auralei grew from three reef villages into a compact island capital after the Beacon Treaty of 1896 made its sheltered lagoon the neutral port of the Lumea Archipelago.

The city sits on four inhabited islands inside a volcanic reef ring. North Isle holds the university and weather harbor, Main Isle holds the Civic Forum and the old port, South Isle rises into crown-shaped basalt, and the Outer Isles shelter fishing villages behind low coral walls.

Auralei’s local language is Veyran. Station signs use Veyran first because the oldest place names carry navigation clues: luma means lantern, sali means reef shelf, and tua means outer water.

How we operate

AITA publishes changes before they affect the trip, keeps the same fare on every mode, and designs information for a rider who may be standing in wind, rain, or bright harbor glare.

Our public voice is plain-spoken, calm, and specific: we tell riders what is happening, when it changes, and what to do next.

Operations are controlled from the Tideglass Room above Toren Mira / Civic Forum, with harbor dispatch at Luma Port / Lantern Harbor during all ferry hours.

Every new AITA project starts with step-free access, audible information, and a staff plan for disrupted journeys.

Stations and piers

All metro stations have lifts, tactile platform edges, induction loops at help points, and high-contrast platform numbers. Ferry piers have floating ramps except Miren Atoll / Mirror Atoll, where staff deploy a tide ramp on request.

Vehicles

Metro and tram vehicles provide two wheelchair bays, priority seating, visual next-stop displays, and bilingual audio announcements in Veyran and English. Ferries carry portable bridge plates and quiet seating near the cabin door.
