Getting on, and getting help
27 of our 32 stations are step-free without help — 84 per cent — and the 3 that need a hand are staffed whenever a boat is due. This page says exactly which is which, and what to expect when you get there.
Booking assistance
Book boarding assistance
Every day, 06:00–21:00. Thirty minutes’ notice is enough for the ferries and none at all is needed for the metro or the tram — but if you tell us, somebody will be waiting.
Write to the access office
Halda Kovaris has been our Accessibility Officer since 2017 and answers this address herself. Broken lift, blocked ramp, unhelpful crew: tell her.
What the three ratings mean
Step-free27 stations
Level or ramped from street to vehicle, without help.
Assisted3 stations
Step-free with crew help. Ring ahead and we will meet you.
Stairs only2 stations
No lift. Use the alternative named in the notes.
Every station, island by island
Ratings describe the whole journey from the street to the vehicle floor, at any state of the tide. Where a station is not step-free we name the nearest one that is; the fare is the same either way, and staff will re-route you at no extra cost.

On board
M1 Aldurada, Tide LineAlduradaTide Line

M2 Rimmrada, Ridge LineRimmradaRidge Line
Level boarding throughout. One wheelchair bay per car with a tip-up seat opposite, and an amber-marked boarding hump at Tumbhald.
T3 Oskarada, Old Town LineOskaradaOld Town Line
Fully low-floor since 2016; the driver deploys a manual ramp on request at any stop. The four 1931 cars on summer heritage duty are not step-free.
F4 Kelduskota, North FerryKelduskotaNorth Ferry
Gangways are level at most states of the tide. At Varneska the ramp steepens and crew assistance is standard, not optional. Two covered wheelchair spaces on the main deck.
F5 Miraskota, South FerryMiraskotaSouth Ferry
Two assisted-boarding bays and a crew member on the gangway for every sailing. The Sorreska pontoon reaches 1:8 at low water, so ring ahead if you would rather board at Lyshald.
What you are entitled to
- Free travel with a disabled pass
- Free travel on all five lines. A companion travels free where the pass is marked +1. Apply at the Radahus counter with a doctor’s letter.
- Assistance dogs
- One dog travels free with each passenger. Assistance dogs are always welcome, in any number. No muzzle, no basket, no charge, no argument.
- Priority seating
- Four seats by each door on the Class 62 and Class 78, six on the Type 16 trams, marked in amber. Crew will ask a passenger to move if you need one.
- Wheelchairs and scooters
- Wheelchairs up to 1,300 mm long travel on everything we run. Mobility scooters are carried on the metro and the tram, and on the F4 and F5 up to 1.2 m; the Sorreska gangway is too steep for anything longer.
- Announcements
- Every stop is announced in Ilvarik and English and shown on the door displays. Platform boards repeat the next three departures; the audio button on the pillar reads them aloud.
- If a lift fails
- We publish it as a service notice within the hour, and a taxi to the nearest step-free station is paid for by us. Ask any member of staff, or ring the assistance line.
This website
We build to WCAG 2.2 level AA and test with a keyboard, with VoiceOver and with the text size doubled. The statement below was last reviewed on 1 July 2026.
What we have done
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, and the focus outline is always visible.
- The system map is operable with the arrow keys and announces each station, and every station on it is also listed as a table underneath.
- The live departure board is drawn on a canvas, so the same departures are published beneath it as text and read out by screen readers as they change.
- Nothing moves for longer than five seconds unless you ask it to, and all motion stops when your system asks for reduced motion.
- Timetables and tickets print without the interface, in black on white, at 10.5 point.
What is not fixed yet
- The map needs a wide screen or sideways scrolling below 700 pixels. The station table carries the same information at any width.
- Three station names on the map are placed at an angle where labels would otherwise collide, which some magnifiers render awkwardly.
- The printed system map, edition 41, is not available as a tactile plan. One is being cut for delivery in 2027.
If something here fails you
Write to access@radaveld.iv or ring +279 4 220 1912. We answer within three working days. If we do not, the city ombudsman at the Radahus will, and the board hears every unresolved complaint at its March meeting.
